It is important for us, our kids write by hand before using digital platforms like Canva because handwriting strengthens cognitive development, spelling accuracy, and language processing. When children write by hand, they focus more on letter formation, sentence structure, and word choice, which improves memory retention and reinforces grammar learning. This initial stage helps them organize their ideas clearly and develop fine motor skills. Once they have planned and written their text on paper, transferring it to Canva allows them to revise, edit, and present their work creatively in a digital format. In this way, handwriting builds strong linguistic foundations, while digital tools enhance motivation, creativity, and digital competence, creating a balanced and effective learning process.

Here one exemple. My old child was revised the lesson for the exam, after controlling the spelling he made this amazing porter for a nice girl, Irene to whom they do many creative workshops.

Clew is an app for learning English by reading books and stories, verey useful for its native voice narrations, contextual illustrations, and full sentence translations. Each kid can read on his own rith, so it is nice to have concience of what you are understanding.

We really like it because it's an immersive way to learn vocabulary and train your ear. Like everything in languages, it requires consistency and effort.

The freemium version has traditional stories segmented according to the child's level. The app offers rewards and prizes for consistent reading, which really hooks children.

Planet Pop helps Spanish primary students learn English through music, videos, and interactive activities that increase motivation and improve vocabulary retention.

APPS_READ&IMAGINE

Oxford Read and Imagine is an excellent choice for Spanish children learning English as a second language because it offers carefully graded stories that match their language level, helping them build confidence step by step. The books combine engaging fictional adventures with clear vocabulary support, illustrations, and follow-up activities that reinforce comprehension and encourage speaking, reading, and critical thinking skills. The recurring characters and imaginative plots keep children motivated, while the integrated audio exposure supports pronunciation and listening development. Overall, the series makes learning English meaningful, structured, and enjoyable for young Spanish learners.

We have several of these books, which are organized by English level. The most interesting thing is that they include a code to download the audio for each book from the website. This helps children learn the correct pronunciation of words.

In addition, at the end of the book there is a comprehension section with simple questions to check whether the child has understood the story.

 

DAILY ROUTINE: BUILDING PROJECTS TO COMUNICATE IN ENGLISH

Teaching English such a second language and supporting at home is quite important and we do usually using maker methodology 

We consider it is essential because it turns language learning into a meaningful, hands-on experience. Instead of memorizing isolated vocabulary, students learn by creating and building objects that help them communicate, such as models, posters, or small projects. Inspired by John Dewey and due to our job as teachers, we reckon this approach allows children to learn by doing. When they build a model of a city, a zoo, or their dream house, they naturally use English to name objects, describe what they have made, give instructions, and present their work. The language becomes a real tool for communication, not just a school subject.

We have nice book to inspire that.

As a teacher of secondary education, I see how this methodology increases motivation, confidence, and participation in the classroom. The objects students create support their speaking, reduce anxiety, and give them something concrete to talk about. Through collaborative projects, they develop creativity, critical thinking, teamwork, and oral communication skills, all while using English in a purposeful way. Working with a maker approach helps children connect language with action, emotion, and creativity, making learning more meaningful and long-lasting.
